FAQs and Mental Health Resources

Frequently ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Deciding if therapy is right for you is a personal journey, but there are some signs to look out for. First off, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like you’re struggling to cope with life’s challenges on your own, therapy could be a helpful tool. Also, if you notice patterns in your thoughts, behaviors, or emotions that are causing distress or interfering with your daily life, therapy can provide a space to explore and understand them better. Ultimately, if you feel like you could benefit from support and guidance in navigating life’s challenges, therapy may be a valuable resource for you.

How long can I expect to come to therapy?

There is no definitive answer to this question. Though it’s safe to say more than a few sessions are usually necessary to make any headway on what brings someone in, some individuals find a few sessions are sufficient, while others choose to continue long-term. There isn’t necessarily a correct answer, but we can collaborate together to help you make the ultimate choice for yourself.

How do I get started?

Please visit the contact page. I will respond to your inquiry within 48 hours during standard business days and can provide a free 15-minute consultation. New clients will receive a welcome email to access their client portal to complete the registration process.

Why can't you bill my insurance?
Unfortunately, I found that all too often my clients were still finding the full bill landing in their laps after I would properly complete the insurance paperwork. Given the unpredictability of insurance coverage, I’ve chosen to charge out of pocket to avoid any surprise bills in your inbox. This also allows me to offer more individualized care to each of my clients.

I can provide something called a superbill (a detailed invoice) which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement if you have out of network benefits. Regarding out-of-network benefits, I’d encourage you to reach out to your insurance directly for specifics. Listed below are some helpful questions to ask.

  • Do I have a policy that has out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health therapy?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible?
  • How much of my out of network deductible has been met?
  • What percentage of the service will be covered once I’ve met my deductible?
What if I can't afford your rate?

Don’t let my rate discourage you from contacting me! I’ve found that more often than not I’m able to come up with an arrangement or refer individuals to therapists who may be able to accommodate your financial situation.

I can also provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please see the FAQ question “Why can’t you bill my insurance?” for additional information regarding superbills.

I reserve 10% of my caseload for clients who cannot meet my standard fee. These slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please visit the Services and Fee Page for additional information.

What form of payment is accepted?

Payment is accepted in the form of credit card or HSA/FSA cards via my HIPAA compliant online portal, Simple Practice.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask that you please notify me at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment of any cancellation/rescheduling requests. Outside of an emergency within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment, clients who do not contact me before the 24 hour window will be charged the full fee for their session.

Where are you located?

At this time, all services are provided via Telehealth. I am currently practicing out of the Philadelphia area. I am licensed in PA and NJ and am able to provide teletherapy to clients who reside anywhere within these two states. Sessions are conducted virtually by a hippa compliant video platform. With virtual therapy, you have the benefit of flexible and convenient care from the comfort of your choosing.

What should I do in the event of an emergency?

Outside of standard business hours (hours outside of Mon to Fri 9am to 5pm) my phone is answered by voicemail only and I cannot guarantee that calls will be returned before the next business day. In the event of an emergency or crisis, please call 911 or proceed to your nearest emergency room. You can also reach The Suicide Lifeline by texting 988 or utilize any of the resources below for additional support that may be needed.
